Aha~!

So tell me how my ENTIRE life, I've been treated as a lower-level, unwanted, thing. Like I cant even put the word human in there, because sometimes the things people did to me were unfit for even an animal. Regardless, that isn't the point I'm making. Earlier, I'd mentioned I had just moved to Cullman Alabama, and it is absolutely gorgeous here, with some old family.
Never in my life have I been treated with such kindness by family. Ever.
Save for Zack, but he isn't family. Yet.
I'd walked out of the bathroom slightly distraught, having lived in Florida, I own NO warm clothes. None.
So I was freezing my tiny annoyed butt off.
This woman, Tina, who plans to marry my uncle, who I've never met in my life, proceeds to GIVE me clothes and then offer to straighten my hair. I wasn't sure how to respond, and stood there in awe for a moment with clothes in my arms, stuttering.
I am NOT used to this.
I am used to having to scrounge money together, and walk to the nearest store with clothes, and buy the cheapest thing I can find. That isn't happening either, Tina wants to go clothes shopping with me. After she gave me free clothes and proceeded to offer to do my hair and compliment me for no reason.
I just got used to Zack doing this. Now there's a whole house full of them.
Someone made breakfast for me.
Someone did my laundry, too.
And now I'm getting clothes for free.
I'm really happy.

  1. Welcome to Humanity.
    Population: You.

The entire world isn't full of knuckledraggers eager to kick you while you're down, though we all have the occasional audience eager to see us fail. Psychologists have tried to explain it - the Tall-Poppy Theory says that those who distinguish themselves are resented for it. The Stanford Prison Experiment says that people abuse those they think they're superior to.

...Long story short, whether you're righteous or downtrodden? People are going to dislike you.

But not all of them. I'm glad you've found some not-all-of-them beyond me. It's long overdue.
